Dad holding his own...

as of this writing Dad is holding his own. He did eat a bit of each meal today. He is not in any pain, but is not doing well, and as of this afternoon, I know he has figured it out! Phillip, Jake, Mom, Marilyn, Heather and I were there this afternoon, along with Marilyn's friend, Peggy and her Mom, and Lewis Kinzie. Mom was going to eat supper with him and then head home. She went to the Doctor this morning with tugmmy ache, etc. and got some med's for her to take. She rested this afternoon and was then heading home to get to bed early this evening. Mk and Peggy were off to the OSU Tulsa ballgame in Stillwater, and Phil was heading home to keep Austyn so Tammy could head to town, and Heather, who had made one trip to Stillwater for med's for Andrew, was off to pick him up from Grandma Ann's who had been keeping him. I spent the afternoon so Mom could cat nap and Dad slept, or sort of!!
Jon and Randi are coming up tomorrow.. I think along with some other family coming up to see Dad...
All for now.. Go Pokes.. Go Sooners!!!

Last night.... dad...

I stayed with Dad till about 4:30am last night. He had rattling in his lungs however they came in and sucked it out and gave him his meds and he then drifted off in to a good sleep. As he drifted off, he asked me to go home and rest in case he needed me back there again later. He asked me to give them my phone number and tell them if he said to them "call" they would know to call me and I was to come in and set. He figured this out on his own and told me his plan, so he is still "putting" things together. He did have a tough early part of the night with his lungs filling with fluid, however, they did suction it off and gave him latex and that helped a bunch. He is in good spirits and resting comfortably. Sometimes the weight of it all gets to him, but overall he is at peace. He did feel a lot better this am when I left. at this writing I have not talked with anyone to see how he is doing, but the call did not come during the night, and that is good! Please remember him in your prayers. And Mom and Marilyn too.
............... Phillip, Heather, Jonathan, and Jacob were there yesterday all at one time and all stood around his bed... and he told me last night... in tears... that it was great to have such wonderful loving grandchildren. He said he bet there were lots of grandparents who never see all their grandkids at one time!! So he knows, and cares, and loves........ He looks at the wall where we have a picture taken at Christmas 2003 blown up so he can see... and mumbles how it is amazing all those folks in it came from "me and your mother"! It is a wonderful comfort for him to be able to see it still.
All for now.. more later.. as day progresses.
Love to all... Stan

The dreaded 2am phone call.....

yes. The dreaded call came. We rushed to hospital, and at this hour Dad is still holding on. His lungs have only one spot in the left upper side that is working at all. The rest of them are filled with fluid. His system is basically shutting down. He is having a bit of trouble breathing, and in some pain as the medication they give him for it ruins out and they give him a bit more. Our goal is to keep him resting comfortably and to not be in any pain. We are following his wishes at this time. Marilyn, Mom, Ann and I were there from 2:30am on, and then Jake came up. Later, Phillip and Tammy and Heather came up to set with him. Jonathan is on his way up, and Marilyn, Mom and Ann are there now.
Today is Grandparents Day at Austyn's school, and he invited Ann and I up along with Grandma Moffat. Ann went and I came home to get a cat nap and go back up with Dad, in case I need to stay the night.
Just in case you all missed it, Heather and Paul are expecting their next kiddo, Heather found out. She had a picture of the baby, bout the size of a big peanut to show us. Awesome! Ann and I are very excited!! VERY! So there are two new additions coming to this end of the Moffat family .... Jon and Randi's in October and Heather and Paul's in May... OH BOY OH BOY....

life goes on....
Love to all... s

Jake called and Dad slept peacefully last night. He spent the night and said he rested and slept all night. He reported that Dad said he felt a bit better this am, and that Marilyn, Phillip, and Phillip's barber, Richard, had come up and Richard had cut Dad's hair. This made him feel a bit better too. Will report more as I learn it.

**************Be sure and check out Randi and Jonathan's Blog for some new exciting news... that I "have to keep secret!"...

Just wanted to share that Dad has taken a turn for the worst. He is really struggles to breath, and his breaths are very labored. He is really having a tough time. Mom and I contacted Hospice and visited with them this am about help with Dad. Not sure at this writing when we are moving from hospital or where, or how. He may go to the fourth floor into skilled nursing part of the fourth floor wing. Both of his doctors visited with me this am and assured me we are in the final days, or the short rows, as Dad would say. He is aware of it too, but is really struggling to just breath. Not sure what is ahead, but will post as we learn things. He is being a trooper, strong, yet loving... and always trying to do his best at what he is asked to do by the doctors and nurses. Mom and MK are holding up ok, or ... as well as can be expected. Mom needs your prayers, as does Dad.
Our best to you all.... OH BY THE WAY.... Heather has some exciting news for us too... but I promised not to tell yet till she says I can...................

Not much change in Dad's condition.

He is still on full oxygen, and the swelling in his arm has gone down a bit. He is setting up in a chair today, first time in a week. He does not want to eat much, however, he did eat his meat and pudding, and the grapes and cherry out of his mixed fruit, and a couple of bites of mashed potatoes. He did sip on his diet Dr. Pepper a bit and still drinks a good deal of water.
All I know for now... more later..
Stan
PS. He did talk about Heather seeing him other day and Jake and Ann coming by a couple of times and friends Ed and Ethel came by, along with Lewis Kinzie. He also talked about Jon and Randi's visit, too.

Dad's condition as of Sunday...

Jake and Ann saw Grandpa two times today, and Randi and Jonathan came up and visited with him Sunday afternoon. They all report he is doing better, but still weak and is hooked up still to IV's and to Oxygen. His years of suffering with Congestive Heart Failure is catching up with him. His heart beats ever faster and is actually moving less and less blood. His lungs are converting less and less Oxygen and is now having to be on more and more oxygen just to breath. And it amazes me how our health care system is for the elderly! And how little each independent unit talks with another. It is like ...." My way is right, to Hell with all others" when there are several doctors involved. Today, one doctor said after checking his lungs carefully the old fashion way for several minutes.."His lungs have fluid in both and are not transporting air very well, and have filled up considerably since I listened last time!" Within minutes, another Doctor waltzed in, stood there and told mom and I that he was doing great! She had no idea he had congestive heart failure till we told her, she then stated that his swelling was not related to water retention, and then ordered latex after she left! She said his lungs were fine, (She never even listened to them!) and said she thought he was doing great!!! And I could go on and on! How can these pillars of our community, those we trust with our very lives, be so completely different in their opinions??? It makes one wonder if there is any reason to even go to the doctor! If they can be this wrong... this much of the time. And we have had this time and time again. One Heart Doctor even pronounced that Dad did not have congestive heart failure!! We had a "great Doctor" in Edmond even miss the tube that Stillwater Medical Center left in dads colon.... for more than a week. In his defense, he ordered an xrayed the day dad arrived in Edmond, but admitted one week later, after ordering another and discovering the tube, that the first one was blurry!! My goodness... such POOR health care in the USA. It seems also, that if you have worked your life away, regardless of money or not, you will join the ranks of all Americans and will be warehoused with all others, so why have health insurance?? In today's world, from being around this system in the last year, if you are young and have zero insurance you will get health care that equals those who have done without and have health care insurance.... so why in the world would you want to make the sacrifice to have it??? Wow?
so my suggestion to us all...... NEVER get OLD... NEVER! Just stop it right now, because I have seen the system and it SUCKS!!
