By Cindy Sheets Local entertainer Jason Savory will release his second CD this month. The CD, titled "Game of Life," will be released Nov. 27. Fans can help Savory celebrate the release during a party at Tumbleweed's in Stillwater on Dec. 1. The singer will perform and be available to sign CDs, which will be on sale during the performance. CDs can also be purchased at Hastings in Stillwater. Savory will also be appearing at other release parties in Oklahoma and the surrounding states. The Ripley, Okla. native and Oklahoma State University alum said he started writing about six years ago, and wrote or co-wrote eight of the 11 songs on the new CD. Some of those songs were written with Tony Payne, who fans will recognize as the former bass player with "No Justice." Savory started performing solo about 15 years ago. He got his start with his brother, Greg, who had his own musical career. Since then, the singer and his band have been busy performing at a variety of venues, including fairs, festivals, and weddings. They often perform in Stillwater at Tumbleweeds and at Roosters (on The Strip), plus a variety of other venues throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas. Members of the five-piece band are all from central Oklahoma. The band consists of Morgan McClellan, Travis Woodson, Jason Trotter, Travis Wackerly, and Savory. "We try to play every weekend," Savory said. Describing his music as "Country with an edge," Savory said he gets some of his inspiration from performers like Earl Thomas Conley and Steve Earle. He said he enjoys performing for live audiences, especially in a stadium seating atmosphere, such as the Winfield County Round-Up in Kansas, where the band has performed the past two years. "It's fun when people are up against the stage," Savory said. "There's a lot more energy [in the performance] when people are into it. "We have a sound that's good enough for country, but also have a 'Red Dirt' sound that's rockin'," Savory added. "That's good for live shows." Savory has shared stages with lots of well-known performers such as Ronnie Milsap, Phil Vassar, Mark Chestnutt, Asleep At The Wheel, Cross Canadian Ragweed, and many others. Though his current two CDs were released on independent labels, Savory has his sights set on a deal with a major label. "We're fixin' to start playing some in Nashville," he said. Savory is planning a series of "showcases" in Nashville where he can perform before recording label representatives. Until then, Savory plans to keep appearing before as many people as he can. He's now booking performances, and says he'll book at any time. To contact Savory, just visit his website at jasonsavory.com or visit his MySpace page at myspace.com/jasonsavoryband.
