Our congratulations to each:
Our congratulations to each and every winner. Again, the above
recognition comes from the fans of Oklahoma Music, and confirmed
by Payne County Line! They voted, we listened!
Here is wishing all the winners the best in 2004. May it be your
best year ever! As Oklahoman's, each of you make us very proud!
One can find links to the artist on numerous places throughout
our web site, or go to PCL Artist/Bands Links.
The real winners, the Fans!
On a closing note... The real winners are YOU, the fans. I am constantly
blown away by your support, work, love, caring, etc. for those bands
you love to watch. It is unbelievable sometimes the depth and width
of your love! But somewhere under all that, you must know; YOU,
the fans, are the sparkle in the artist eye, the excitement in their
voice, and as you watch the stage, or listen to the cd, you have
to know... the artist is performing for you... and you alone! YOU
are the single most important piece in this puzzle, the most important
part of the equation... without you, there would be no artist, no
bands, the axes would go silent, the buzz of the silent PA would
become deafening, the world would become silent!
Oh yes, it is true! YOU are the most important part of this thing
called live music! Even in songwriting, I have heard it said from
those of old, that “writer block” comes from losing
site of the fans, feeling for them, seeing them, understanding their
importance in the real scheme of things.
Two things today bring this home more than ever! One, watching
the Grammy’s, one could just listen to the acceptance speeches
and come to realize which ones receiving awards understood this.
Some remembered the fans first, some half way through, and some
at the end… some artist never once remembered the ones who
truly put them there last night, YOU, the fans! And they will be
gone soon!
The second thing was preparing this list over the last 6 weeks…
has helped me understand how you feel about your bands, your artist,
your favorite places to hang…etc. It is with true love and
devotion that you filled in your ballots the hard way, that you
took time to write in your thoughts, etc., tell us how we should
do it, etc. We tried to listen out of respect to you.
So the next time you are heading for a show and decide that at
the last minute it would be ok not to go, remember, the band, the
artist…. Is doing it for YOU! They drive thousands of miles,
burn up equipment, vehicles, themselves, just to do one thing, perform
for YOU! Sure they make a living doing this, but… The real
true artist would trade it all for one last song .. before YOU,
the fans! For, you see, the real artist, the real musicians, they
understand the love affair, and realize the driving force inside
them is their love of music and their love of pleasing YOU!
My hats off to all of you many Oklahoma Music Fans! You guys are
a truly amazing bunch of folks with open eyes, strong hearts, and
lots of love! Thank you for taking time to do the balloting, and
thank you for your undying support of Oklahoma Music!
Till next year, see ya at the next show!
PS. Also, wanted to take a second to say thanks to the
thousands of military who read our site over the month. I am so
thankful for you all, what you do and how you do it. You are the
best~!
2004 Payne County Line
Music Awards From The Fans!
About the 2004 Payne County Line Music Awards.
The last three weeks in December, 2003, we put online a ballot
with 12 areas that our fans could list their top 5 Artist in each
area. We allowed only one ballot per email address. We asked the
fans to consider only the year 2003. We added a box for Oklahoma/Texas/World
… anyone who filled out a ballot to add on their comments,
etc. or to add ideas to make this balloting even better. We decided
not to change the ballot but work with what we had.
We received 25,500 plus ballots filled in somewhat. We then counted
almost 5000, 4931, to be exact that were filled in as we ask voters
to do. Of these almost all had ideas to make it better… with
that in mind, we have added to our original list of 12 any area
that had over 75 identical remarks about it. Thus, our recognition
of 12 grew to 60 areas.
We finished officially counting these ballots on February 2nd,
and began the collation of the results.. long process, but we wanted
your voices to be heard, as we have received so much comment on
other awards on other sites. We wanted your voices heard, especially
on who you thought should win, what not to do to take away from
or add to the recognition… etc.
From all this, we decided to simply announce the winners as nominated
and voted on by the fans of Oklahoma Music that read our site and
took the time to fill out and write notes on a long ballot, doing
it the hard way… (no click on our choice), but write in YOUR
choices.
In January, 2004, Payne County Line had over 300,000 hits thru
the front door of our website, over 2 MILLION hits all together
for the month, from over 40,000 sites around the world in 64 countries!
Wow… not bad for a site started about 15 months ago! The most
hit on our site is our news, next is calendar, next is photos, next
is interviews… and on and on! Bands, keep this in mind…
our second most hit page is calendar, so you all might want to use
it, it’s free!
We are proud of the process, proud of the fans for taking time
to fill out the ballots and the comments, and especially proud of
the winners! We are also proud of all those in the Oklahoma Music
Scene, the artist, the bands, the venues, the fans, the vendors,
and the winners! Our hats off to ya! YOU make us proud!
